No history of India's freedom movement can be complete without putting on record the contributions made by many eminent Britons to India's cause. The work these men and women did in promoting Indian aspirations in 19th-century Britain was to bear fruit in the 20th. Their services to India through journals, societies, books, pamphlets and speeches in Parliament and outside, seeded the vision of Britain and India as equal partners. Their names and deeds, almost forgotten today, are recalled in this book, which was published to mark the Golden Jubilee Year of India's independence.
