Kit has been a botany professor for nearly two decades. During her tenure she has served thousands of students and developed and instructed more than fifteen different plant science courses. She and her students have conducted and published research on a wide range of topics, including plant disease, medicinal plants, ethnobotany, public land, science education, and more.
